Williams Grove Race Report
Williams Grove Half Mile
Finishing Position: Second
Points Standings: First by 12 Points
Williams Grove half mile was a new track on the schedule with no one in the American Flat Track Singles class ever putting in laps around there (minus my hundreds of laps there in a sprint car video game to prepare). I knew the shape was a bit different then anything I had ever ridden before being super long straight aways with very tight, narrow corners. Immediately in practice the track was soft, and getting very rough. I looked at this with a great mind set, and knew I could excel on a more physical track where you could push harder then the other riders if you trusted yourself. I basically looked at it like riding in my backyard which was a blast with that outlook. I ended up qualifying in P3 after chasing gearing around with the track changing drastically every session out. Going into the heat races the track was completely different, and it turned into a one lined rough groove around the bottom of the racetrack. I quickly adapted to that in my heat race coming off the line in second taking over the lead quickly, and blowing the corners for the first two laps. I settled down and was able to pull a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Went back to the pit area and talked with my crew to look for changes to improve the gearing a little bit more. In the semi race I didn't get the best start either and followed the leader around for the entire race. We had a really good pace going. When it came time for the main event I went back to my standard starting procedure, and was able to pull a holeshot which was my first for the year in a main. I led for two laps until Kevin came around me. I knew that I did not need to beat him on this day. As much as I want to win right now being the points leader I know what I have to do on each race day to maintain it. I ended the main event in second place after riding a long safe race. I was very happy with this which led to adding another 5 points to my championship running now 12 points over second place.
I am back home in New York now training, and going over my bikes to make sure they are ready for the last two rounds in Texas, and California. Thanks for all of your continued support and continue looking for me at the front!
